Damascus and Moscow: Turkish Aggression on Syrian Territories Causes Displacement of Tens of Thousands of Citizens

DAMASCUS, (ST)- Syria and Russia in a joint statement on Monday said that the Turkish aggression on the bordering areas in the north of Syria has caused the displacement of a large number of people and increased the danger of Daesh terrorists’ return to the area. They stressed that this development destabilizes the region, worsens the humanitarian situation and undermines the progress achieved in the fight against Daesh terrorist organization in Syria.

The statement, issue by the two Syrian and Russian coordination committees on the return of the displaced Syrians, called for preventing an imminent human disaster and for assisting the Syrian state to restore its full sovereignty over its entire territory, because it is the only party that is able to organize humanitarian aid deliveries to the displaced citizens and prevent the collapse of the health situation as well as the social and economic  infrastructure in al-Jazira region.

 The two committees pointed out in their statement that despite the great efforts exerted by the Syrian government to help the Syrian refugees return, Washington and some Western countries keep hindering this return for special purposes through frightening  the displaced and financially and economically pressuring the Syrian state, mainly in the oil, medicines and reconstruction sectors.

The statement reiterated that the illegal presence of the United States and its allies in Syria is the most destabilizing factor that prevents the return of normal life in the country, noting Washington’s insistence to violate all the rules of the international law through keeping al-Tanf base in Homs countryside in order to train and arm the terrorist groups fighting the Syrian government and through refusing  to dismantle al-Rukban camp.

The statement stressed that thanks to joint Syrian-Russian efforts, hundreds of thousands of displaced Syrians have been able to return to their original areas of residence which have been liberated from terrorism by the Syrian Arab army.
