Syria and Serbia discuss developing parliamentary relations

Deputy Speaker of the People’s Assembly Najdat Anzor discussed with the President of the National Assembly of Serbia Maya Djokovic means of enhancing and developing parliamentary relations between the two countries, on the sidelines of the visit of the People’s Assembly delegation to Belgrade to participate in the meetings of the 141 Assembly of the International Parliamentary Union which is scheduled to kick off today. 

Djokovic reaffirmed Serbia’s position in condemning terrorism against Syria and undermining the unity and territorial integrity of Syria, appreciating the support of the government and people of Syria to Serbia.

Djokovic expressed her country’s rejection of the double standards practiced by some countries regarding the situation in Syria in order to achieve their goals and ambitions in the region.

In turn, Anzour pointed out that the Syrian people are continuing their war on terrorism and achieving victories and are adhering to their rejection of all foreign interference outside the framework of the Syrian state’s approval.

Anzour noted that Syria is subject now to an Ottoman invasion which has targeted the unity of its soil and its people.

Anzour underlined the importance of parliamentary relations between the two countries as a true expression of the will of their people in the development of relations.

Secretary of the People’s Assembly Khaled Aboud, Chairman of the Arab and Foreign Affairs and Emigrants Committee, Boutros Morjana, MP Samir Al-Khatib and Charge d’Affaires of the Syrian Embassy in Serbia Othman Saab attended the meeting. 

The Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) will hold its meetings between October 14 and 17 in Belgrade, Serbia, under the title of parliamentary roles and mechanisms and the contribution of regional cooperation to promote international law.
