Lavrov: Washington’s illegitimate presence in Syria should be ended

Nur-Sultan,(ST) _ Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stressed  the necessity of continuing efforts to find a settlement to the crisis in Syria based on  the  Astana format.

In a joint press conference with his Kazakh counterpart Mukhtar Tleuberdi  today, Lavrov said:” No justification for Washington’s behavior  in Syria, and its illegal presence in Syria should be ended,” . He  pointed  out that US  has not implemented its obligations concerning Syria and its forces are still illegally present in the area of al-Tanf, along with terrorist organizations that attack the displaced Syrian in al-Rukban camp.

There are there are thousands  of displaced  Syrian families  in al-Rukban camp  who were  obliged to leave their homes because of the  terrorist attacks.  They  live in difficult humanitarian conditions and suffer from lack of health care and food shortages as a result of the siege imposed upon  them  by  the US occupation forces for more than four years.

On the situation in the  eastern Syrian region , Lavrov reiterated his country’s stance on  avoiding  any actions that hinder the settlement of the crisis in Syria and  on the necessity of  commitment to the unity and integrity of its territories.
