Continuous Detention of Oil Shipments by Saudi-Led Coalition Threatens Food Security in Yemen

SANAA, (ST)- The Yemeni Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation has warned of the disastrous situation threatening the country’s agricultural sector, the main source of food security in Yemen, because of the continuous detention of the oil derivatives ships by the Saudi-led Coalition which prevents them from entering the port of Hodeidah.

Minister of Agriculture Abdul Malek al-Thur said in a statement to the Yemeni News Agency SABA said that the continuous detention of the ships affects badly the production of agricultural crops which depends on wells for irrigation and it will lead to a humanitarian and environmental catastrophe because of the interruption of water pumping.

He called on the United Nations and the international organizations to act fast to stop the Saudi-led aggression on Yemen, lift the siege and allow the entry of oil derivatives to the country in order to avoid a humanitarian and environmental disaster especially with the spread of diseases and epidemics.

On Friday, the Yemeni Oil Ministry announced that the number of the oil shipments detained by the Saudi-led coalition is increasing despite warnings of the disastrous impacts of this behavior.
