Tishreen University in Lattakia province and Moscow State Technological University (Stankin) signed yesterday a scientific and academic cooperation agreement with the aim of exchanging and developing the students’ scientific and technological expertise.
The agreement provided for exchanging students according to a program of short-term specialized scientific training courses, carrying out joint research projects, organizing scientific programs, symposiums and conferences, exchanging experiences and programs in fields of common interest and exchanging teaching and administrative staff as well as scientific research activities.
Following the signing ceremony, an educational introductory exhibition was held to introduce the activities of the higher education a system in Russia. Delegations representing 19 Russian universities took part in the scientific event, which was held at the Central Library of Tishreen University.

“This exhibition is an important platform to consolidate scientific and educational relations between Syria and Russia” Dr. Vadim Zaichikov, chairman of the Russian cultural center in Beirut and the supervisor of the Russian cultural center in Damascus, said in a statement to the Syriatimes e-newspaper.
He pointed out that this educational event focused on presenting introductory activities about the system of education in Russia and the specializations offered by the Russian higher education establishments. It also focused on educational scholarships offered by the Russian government for Syrian students to continue their university and higher education.
Dr. Zaichikov pointed out the Russian universities participating in this exhibition varied between law, medicine, media, technology, pharmacy, administration, earth sciences, economics, oil, engineering, linguistics, international relations, tourism, IT and other specializations.
On his part, Dr. Bassam Hasan, Rector of Tishreen University, asserted that this scientific event enables concerned Syrian students to be briefed on the Russian universities and their different specialization, especially those that aren’t available in Tishreen University. Students can also be briefed on how to apply to these universities, he added.
“The exhibition paves the way for more cooperation and exchange of expertise between Tishreen university and the world-famous Russian universities,” Dr. Hasan indicated.
On her part, Mrs. Lareesa Sheker, Head of the Education Department at the Russian Cultural Center in Beirut, said this event is of great importance for boosting the Syrian-Russian ties in higher education as well as for providing the Syrian students with several opportunities to choose the specialization that they want to study.
On their parts, a number of university Syrian students expressed hope that this event will not be the last to be held in Syria, stressing the necessity of holding such scientific and educational events regularly.
