Russian official and religious figures underline the need to lift unilateral coercive economic measures imposed on Syria

A number of Russian officials and social and religious figures highlighted the necessity of lifting the unilateral coercive measures imposed on Syria and assisting it economically and humanitarianly without politicization and preconditions.

In an interview with SANA correspondent in Moscow today, Secretary of the Council of Relations with Religious Organizations at the Russian Presidency Sergey Melnikov said “Representatives of the western side and the United States in particular, are working to achieve their political and economic interests despite all their claims that they represent the civilized world”.

The Secretary stressed that what is happening in the Middle East is caused by the west.

The Secretary pointed out that the presence of US forces on Syrian territories is illegitimate and constitutes an interference and occupation contrary to the Russian military presence, which is legitimate and came under a request from the legitimate Syrian government. He asserted that the departure of illegal foreign forces from Syria contributes to achieving a political solution.

The Executive Director of the Interfaith Fund for Supporting the Implementation of Joint Humanitarian Projects Yorgin Korchikov clarified that the West, including the United States, sought to destroy Syria by supporting terrorist organizations and have no intention to lift the unilateral coercive economic measures imposed on the Syrian people to make them able to rebuild their country and recover their economy.

In an interview with SANA correspondent in Moscow, Korchikov said that the West is increasingly imposing additional coercive economic measures not only on Syria but also on every country trying to pursue an independent policy. He stressed that the Westerners and Americans have interfered in the Syrian affairs illegally, bombarded Syrian villages and towns,  prevented the arrival of food and medicine to Syria, blocked financial resources, stopped the media coverage and supplied terrorists with all necessary weapons, equipment, food, military information and media coverage.

Korchikov stated that Russia has supported and still supports Syria’s efforts, participating in its war against the remnants of terrorism in some areas and urging the international community to foster the reconstruction of Syria and push the political process forward in order to terminate its crisis.

Head of the Russian Spiritual Complex of Muslims, Member of the Russian Social Council, Albert Karganov, said that the current main work is the reconstruction of Syria, pointing out that the countries that had been against Syria previously should reconsider their stances and join the countries contributing in restoring peace and stability to it by lifting unilateral measures imposed on the Syrian people and providing all forms of support for the development of the economy.
