Egyptian FM stresses importance of combating terrorist organizations in Syria

On September 28, Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry stressed the importance of working to combat terrorist organizations in Syria.

On the sidelines of the 74th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, Shoukry met with the United Nations Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pederesen.

“During the meeting with Pedersen, Shoukry stressed Egypt’s keenness to provide all aspects of support for efforts to solve the Syrian crisis and restore Syria’s security and stability,” Egypt Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Hafez said in a statement.

Shoukry stressed the importance of working to combat terrorism and extremist organizations in Syria and to address the risk of foreign fighters’ infiltration from their areas, especially from Idlib.

A few days ago, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry called on the international community to hold Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan accountable for his crimes such as supporting the terrorists in Syria and the region and providing them with weapons and safe shelter, in violation of the UN Security Council’s resolutions as well as his crimes against his people.
