Syria calls for enacting international laws that criminalize media outlets that engage in igniting wars

ST. PETERSBURG, (ST)_The impact of media outlets on public opinion and their reactions  towards the ongoing international events as well as cooperation between countries in this regard are the main topics to be discussed during the 5th international Forum of journalists from  Islamic countries, which kicked off today in the Russian St. Petersburg city.

During the opening ceremony of the forum, the Syrian Deputy Information Minister Ahmad Dawa said that the terrorist war on Syria unveiled the role of media outlets in igniting wars and fabricating news.

“The set up of hundreds of websites and Face book accounts by media outlets, which have been involved in the war on Syria to fabricate news, has created a fake situation about the events in the country,” Dawa said,  referring to the external  pressures being put on Syrian media outlets .

He called for Enacting international laws that criminalize those who engage in illegal attempts in the cyberspace and protecting the new media from promoting wars, terrorism, extremism and destructive ideas.
