Syrian ,Russian foreign ministers discuss situation in Syria

DAMASCUS,(ST)- Foreign and Expatriates Minister Walid al-Mualem has informed Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov by telephone about the escalation of unrest in the region in the wake of the  Israeli aggression  against Syrian yesterday morning.

“Al-Mualem provided a detailed account of the Israeli air strikes on Syrian facilities on May 3 and 5 near Damascus. A discussion was held on the current explosive situation,” The Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement posted on its website.

Al-Mualem,the Deputy Premier,made it clear that Syria has a genuine right in the international law and the UN Charter to retaliate such aggressions.

Lavrov briefed al-Mualem on Russia’s leadership’s communications as regards halting deterioration the region is witnessing due to the recent Israeli aggression ,affirming that efforts being exerted regionally and internationally for  curbing  escalation .

“Russia again urged maximum restraint. Lavrov said Syria’s and other regional states’ sovereignty and territorial integrity must not be violated, especially amid the destructive and dangerous internal conflict continuing in Syria,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

Al-Mualem and Lavrov agreed on keeping in touch on any possible developments.
