Zarif: All countries should respect Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity

On September 25, Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif stressed the need for all countries to respect Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

“All foreign forces in the Syrian territory without the approval of the Syrian state should leave,” Zarif said during a meeting held at the headquarters of the United Nations in New York.

He added that the Israeli attacks against Syria complicate the situation. The international community must urge Israel to halt all attacks.

Zarif said that the occupied Syrian Golan is Syrian territory and will remain Syrian. The US declaration on the Golan is illegal.

Zarif reiterated that the only solution to the crisis in Syria is a political solution led by Syria and supported by the United Nations.

“The Syrians decide their country’s future which is related to the Syrians themselves. We should facilitate talks between them to agree on a political solution without any external pressures or deadlines,” Zarif said.

He stressed the need to support the reconstruction process in Syria, saying it is necessary to support this process, which should not be politicized or linked to other issues.

Zarif said that Tehran by hosting the next meeting of the Astana peace meeting will provide more support to find a solution to the crisis in Syria.
