DAMASCUS, (ST)- Prime Minister Imad Khamis has stressed the key and effective role that can be played by European opinion makers in conveying the truth about events in Syria and about the impacts of the economic blockade imposed on the Syrians.
He made the remarks during his meeting on Monday with a delegation comprising Italian politicians and parliamentarians.
The meeting focused on the economic situation in Syria and the government’s efforts to meet the basic needs of citizens under the unilateral coercive measures imposed on Syria.
The prime minister talked about the government’s plan to confront the challenges resulting from the western blockade on Syria through self reliance, through the best investment of the country’s resources and potentials particularly in the agricultural and industrial fields, through reactivating the tourism sector and through drawing up an integrated plan to rebuild Syria after the war and help the Syrian refugees return home.
Members of the guest delegation stressed that what they saw on the ground in Syria is different from what the western media outlets have reported to the European public opinion about the situation in the country. They affirmed the importance of explaining that Syria has been exposed to a regional and international terrorist war, calling on the governments of some western countries to reconsider their policies and their unfair economic measures that directly and badly affect the living of the Syrian citizens.
