Damascus, (ST) –Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Walid al-Moallem on Monday welcomed the UN Secretary General’s Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen and his accompanying delegation.
During the meeting, they discussed the remaining issues related to the formation of the Constitutional Committee and the mechanisms and procedures of its work in order to ensure its role in accordance with clear and agreed upon procedures in advance and away from any external interference.
The meeting was positive and constructive, and their views were identical on the fact that only the Syrian people have the right to lead the constitutional process and that the Syrians should determine their own future without any external interference or pressure to ensure the desired progress in the political process to restore security and stability to all regions in the Syrian Arab Republic. They also stressed the need to fully respect the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Syria and to reject all forms of terrorism.
Pedersen briefed al-Moallem on the results of his meetings held in the last period, praising the progress in the political process and stressed his readiness to make the necessary efforts to contribute to facilitate the Syrian-Syrian dialogue and achieve the desired results.
