9th Final of the Syrian Programming Competition for Universities

Homs (ST)_ Under the patronage of  Dr. Abdul Baset Al-Khateeb, President of Al-Baath University, Syrian Programming Competition for Universities 9th  Final, will kick off today in Al-Baath University in Homs in an initiative to enable students to test their programming capacities and IT skills.

20 Syrian universities represented by 75 teams qualified as the best teams participating in the first stage of programming competitions held at the level of universities; in addition to 3 teams of high school students that are participating unofficially.

Dr. Jaafar Al-Khair, head of the University Programming Competition in Syria, pointed out that they organize a number of qualifying competitions. However, the national competition is considered as one of the most important competitions as it includes the best programmers in Syrian universities.

Dr.  Al-Khair stressed: “Al-Baath University was chosen to host this event as a consequence of its students’ excellence on national and international levels, as the university teams have won several Arab and international awards in programming, reflecting the level of education and academic development of the university.”

Dr. Al-Khateeb, president of the Baath University, said that 75 teams from 20 Syrian academic institutions competing for the title of Syrian champion in programming. “The university has provided all the requirements, equipments and facilities for hosting participating teams, providing laboratories, computers and administrative staff to ensure the success of the competition.”  The competition has developed to become an annual event for students of Al-Baath University, which have established a real programming culture that supports the university curriculum and enables prominent programming skills to be released in market.

The contest consists of one team of three contestants and a trainer, working on one computer to solve a number of daily life problems through programming within five hours. The team that succeeds in solving the largest number of issues in the shortest time will win.

It is worth mentioning that the National Competition is the second qualifying stage to reach the World Final, where the first-place teams at the national level will be qualified to participate in the 23rd African and Arab Championship, which will be held in November this year. The teams representing the Arab region who win the regional final will be selected to participate in the World Final in 2020, which will be held in Russia with the participation of elite universities of the world.
