Arab and Foreign Trade Unions Call for Closure of US and Turkish Military Bases in Syria

DAMASCUS, (ST)- Participants in the 3rd International Trade Unions Forum on Solidarity with the Syrian Workers and People have decided to launch an international unionist campaign to break the economic siege imposed on the Syrian people.

In the final statement of the forum, which concluded on Monday, the participants voiced their full solidarity with the Syrian workers and expressed willingness to cooperate at international gatherings to achieve this hoped for goal.

 The participants affirmed the need to expand cooperation among all peoples of the world to fight all forms of terrorism, including the economic, cultural and intellectual kinds and to dry up the financial and ideological resources of terrorism

They also stressed their solidarity with the workers and peoples of other countries which are also facing terrorism and an unjust siege. They called on international bodies, mainly the Arab and the international labor organizations, to expand their contributions to facing the repercussions of economic sieges and unilateral coercive measures.

They condemned the attempts by some countries, which have been supporting terrorism in Syria, in exploiting the refugee issue and hindering the return of the displaced Syrians to their homeland.

The final statement also stressed the participants’ condemnation of the aggressive practices of the US and zionist- backed Qasad (Syrian Democratic Forces) militia against civilians and denounced the collusion with the Turkish regime to establish the so-called “safe zone” in the Syrian Jazeera region.

The statement asserted that these aggressive practices flagrantly violate Syrian sovereignty. It called for the closure of all the US and Turkish military bases in  Syrian territories and for the withdrawal of all the illegal foreign forces from Syria and for an immediate stop of the US-led coalition’s airstrikes against residential neighborhoods in Syria.
