Iran Announces starting the third Step in reducing Nuclear Commitments

Spokesman for the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Behrouz Kamalvandi announced yesterday details of the country’s third step in reducing nuclear commitments in response to Washington’s withdrawal

from the deal.

“Iran’s reduction of its nuclear obligations is  in response to Washington’s violations of the agreement,” Kamalundi told a news conference on Saturday. “We do not intend to abandon the issue of transparency of the nuclear project and the IAEA’s control over it, and we do not need to recycle the used fuel at this time.”

Kamalundi said: “Tehran had designed a 15-year program aiming to attain 270,000 SWU, which could be increased to a million SWU.” He added that Iran had taken four measures in the third step to reduce commitments and began pumping gas into the sixth generation of centrifuges, pointing out that there are 82 items in the nuclear deal related to control of the nuclear program.

Kamalundi continued: “We will look at Fordow reactor and we will be frank transparent in announcing everything. One of our  commitments under the JCPOA is related to the re-design of the Arak reactor and another is about production of heavy water.”

Kamalundi added: “We do not violate the laws of the International Atomic Energy Agency, so we will not withdraw from the protocol supplementing the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. We are not doing anything against the laws and we will not give enemies any excuse in this regard.”

Kamalundi stressed that Iran has started feeding uranium gas into chains of 20 advanced IR6 centrifuges as well as IR4 centrifuges. He also said the IAEA has been informed about Iran’s new nuclear steps which it will continue to monitor.

Iran maintains that the new measures are not designed to harm the nuclear deal but to save the accord by creating a balance in the commitments.
