On September 2, the Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif stressed the need for continuing the efforts to get rid of terrorism in Syria and solve the Syrian crisis through the Astana peace process. They called for ensuring suitable conditions for the return of Syrian refugees to their homeland.
During a joint press conference with Zarif in Moscow, Lavrov said:
“We have discussed regional and international issues in addition to the fight against terrorism in Syria and the region. Russia will support the resolutions that respect Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.”
Lavrov added that the west countries continue to hinder the return of displaced Syrians to their country, stressing that talk about the failure of the Syrian state to provide the conditions for their return is “politicized and biased”.
During a meeting with representatives of Russian society in Moscow, Zarif said that Russia and Iran are planning to carry out joint military maneuvers in the Indian Ocean, expecting other countries to join these military trainings.
Zarif said that the presence of the US occupation on Syrian territories is illegal and destructive. He added that any behavior that could lead to any damage to the Syrian people is unacceptable.
Zarif said that his country would be complying with its obligations in full when the Europeans, Russians and Chinese comply with theirs in full.
