At Dar Al-Assad for Culture and Arts Theater in Damascus, the Syrian Virtual University and the Excellence and Creativity Agency honored the winners and participants in the Informatics Programming Marathon for Children and Adolescents for the year 2019 in the presence of Dr. Najah Al-Attar, Vice President and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Syrian Virtual University.
The President of the Syrian Virtual University Dr. Khalil Al-Ajami stressed that the competition comes within the framework of supporting the process of technological learning and the education of young people.
Dr. Al-Ajami pointed out that the world is moving towards knowledge and technology economy and that the university will launch more competitions and activities in support of the ability of Syrian youths to compete globally in the field of programming.
The ceremony was attended by Minister of Higher Education Dr. Bassam Ibrahim, Dr. Mohsen Bilal, a member of the Central Command of the Baath Arab Socialist Party, Hala Dakkak, President of the Excellence and Innovation Agency, a number of heads of public and private universities and a crowd of contestants’ families.
141 children and adolescents from different governorates participated in the final stage tests of the 2019 Programming Marathon for Children and Adolescents. These tests were organized by the “Lifelong Learning” center at the Syrian Virtual University and the Excellence and Creativity Commission in cooperation with the Syrian Scientific Society for Informatics and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) over two periods. Each of them lasts three hours in Al-Fayhaa Sports Hall in Damascus.
The top ten adolescents students will be granted direct qualification cards to the final competition of the Syrian scientific Olympiad in informatics for 2020.
