The World Health Organization recommended that, breastfeeding should be in the first six months of child’s life and continue with Complementary Food until the child reaches 2 years of age.

Dr. Fadi Kassis, Director of Health Care at the Ministry of Health in Syria said: according to the World Health Organization (WHO), breastfeeding provides all the child nutrients needs in the first months of a baby’s life.

“In addition to that breastfeeding reduces children’s death by common childhood illnesses, Kassis said.”

The Family Planning Association launched an awareness campaign targeting women in its centers in Sweida to encourage breastfeeding. It includes sessions, symposiums and lectures on the benefits of breastfeeding for mother and child.

Since 1990, countries around the world have been celebrating “World Breastfeeding Week” to promote it, according to the World Health Organization.
