DAMASCUS, (ST)-Algeria is taking part in the 61st edition of Damascus International Fair (DIF) for the first time after the fair’s comeback two years ago. The fair is due to be held between August 28th and September 6th, 2019.
On this occasion, Algeria’s Ambassador to Syria Saleh Bousha stressed his country’s keenness to witness the return of the Algerian companies to the Syrian market in order to reestablish a hoped-for partnership that serves the interests of both countries.
The political, economic and social relations between Syria and Algeria are increasingly growing, the Algerian diplomat stressed, noting the two countries’ “political will to achieve more cooperation and restore the strength of economic ties to the level they reached before the crisis in Syria”.
“Syria was Algeria’s top Arab economic and trade partner before the crisis, as trade exchange between the two countries was valued at $600 million in 2010,” said Bousha, pointing out that Syria regularly participates in the Algerian fairs, the latest of which was within Algiers International Fair last June.
The chance is now available to reactivate the cooperation agreements and the principles put by the Syrian-Algerian joint committee in 2010, the ambassador said, noting the potentials the two countries enjoy and that enable them to further enhance trade exchange.
Bousha went on to say that four big economic groups that contain several companies working in domestic, mechanical, electrical and transport industries, will participate in Damascus International Fair.
He reaffirmed his country’s support for Syria in the face of the unilateral coercive measures imposed on the Syrian people.
He asserted that the participation of several Arab countries in the coming Damascus International fair is “a positive indication”.
The Ambassador hailed the role being played by the Syrian community in Algeria’s economic activities. He made it clear that the number of Syrians in Algeria exceeded 60.000 during the last few years. Those Syrians have established 35 companies working in the fields of services and contracts on establishing oil pipelines, according to him.
