DAMASCUS, (ST)- Speaker of the People’s Assembly Hammoudah Sabbagh, and Special Assistant of the Speaker of Iran’s Shura Council for Political Affairs Hussein Amir Abdullahian discussed during a meeting on Monday in Damascus means of enhancing parliamentary relations to serve the interests of the peoples of Syria and Iran.
Sabbagh, who thanked the Iranian leadership and government over their firm support for the Syrian people, affirmed continuous coordination between the parliamentarians of the two countries to unify their stances at international forums as to confront the conspiracies hatched against Syria and Iran. He voiced Syria’s full solidarity with Iran in the face of the continuous US threats.
Sabbagh pointed out that the role of the parliamentarians is growing within the framework of the parliamentary diplomacy which opens more horizons in front of official diplomacy.
“Many countries haven’t adopted clear stances on the current events in the region, but a number of these countries’ parliamentarians have announced their clear independent stances in support of people’s causes, he made it clear.
On his part Abdollahian, stressed the role of parliamentarians’ in speeding up the reactivation of trade exchange and economic relations between Syria and Iran. He hailed the efforts being exerted by the Syrian People’s Assembly to approve laws and legislations that contribute to the development of Syria’s future.
The Iranian official reiterated that his country will spare no effort as to support Syria at the political and economic level and in the same strength it has been supporting Syria’s war on terrorism over the past years.
Speaking to journalists following the meeting, Abdollahhian highly appreciated Syria’s brave stances and its efforts to fight terrorism, pointing out that Syria today is entering a new era and that the issue of the terrorists in Idleb will be decisively solved.
He stressed the need to activate tourism in general, particularly religious tourism between the two countries. He also stressed the importance of exchanging visits between the businessmen of the two countries as to develop the economic side and confront the unilateral coercive measures imposed on Syria and Iran.
