“Women in Business” Conference Highlights Syrian Women’s Keenness to Effectively Take Part in Their Country’s Reconstruction
“I am very proud to see the Syrian women so active, effective and fundamental members in their society, especially in the economic filed”, Dr. Salwa Khalil El-Amine, Head of Diwan Ahilil Kalam in Lebanon, said in a statement to Syriatimes e-newspaper on the sidelines of the “Women In Business” Conference ( When She Leads) held recently in Lattakia province.
Diwan Ahilil Kalam is a cultural and social establishment that sheds light on creative capacities in the Arab world in all specializations including women’s work in economy.
About her participation in the event, El-Amine said “I was very keen to attend this conference to see on ground the Syrian women’s activities and participation in the economic field, especially after the brutal war on Syria that sought undermining the country’s prosperity and stability”.
She highly valued holding this conference to give an idea about the situation in Syria and shed light on the Syrian businesswomen’s keenness to effectively take part in the reconstruction process of their country.
“I am surprised by the wide participation in the conference as well as by the high-spirit and strong character the Syrian women enjoy despite the hard circumstances they have faced” Dr. El-Amine expressed.
This conference stresses the Syrian women’s steadfastness in defense of their country, especially in the economic field and it shows their ability to fight the crisis even if they can’t be in the battlefield side by side with men, according to Dr. El-Amine, who affirmed that “countries can’t be built unless economy is based on science and knowledge”.
On her part , Deputy chairperson of the Arab Women Leaderships Union and social activist Eng. Dr. Sohaila Slameh, who is another participant in the conference, told the “Syriatimes” that “such a conference should be held constantly as it is a positive initiative to support and empower Syrian women and it provides a chance to exchange expertise in the business domain”.
On her part, Hiba Ojaili, head of Tatweer (development) Center for Human Development and Training said in a statement to the Syriatimes that “the Women in Business conference is a major start-up to encourage Syrian women and empower them socially, economically, culturally and politically”.
She called for reactivating Syrian women’s key role in society as this conference affirms that the Syrian people will not surrender but will continue supporting and enhancing their country’s process of development.
Boudoor Al-Sayyed , a businesswoman who took part in the conference, stressed in a statement to the Syriatimes that “the Syrian women’s creative capacities shouldn’t be neglected and we as Syrian women seek to develop our business”. She pointed out that “this comprehensive conference provides us an opportunity to open new prospects in the business world through cooperation among different kinds of business categories taking part in the conference.”
The two-days conference, which witnessed wide participation by those interested in economic field, focused on important topics mainly the Syrian woman’s situation in the business field, how to establish successful projects, women and tourism, art and the society’s identity, businesswomen’s success indicators as well as enhancing partnership among different categories.
In her presentation, Dr . Nour Ghadban , who has got a phD in computer and control engineering as well as a L’Oreal-UNISCO for Women in Science award in 2017, reviewed the opportunities and challenges facing the woman at different levels .
Dr. Ghadban urged women to follow-up their issues by themselves because it is the only way to get their full right in equality.
She underlined the fact that the Syrian government is characterized by giving top priority to Syrian women issues and by allowing them to actively take part in decision-making.
