Iran Decries MBS’s Accusations as Attempt to Cover Up Saudi Mistakes

TEHRAN – Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson dismissed the accusations that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has recently levelled against Tehran, slamming them as an attempt to whitewash the disastrous results of the Saudi kingdom’s wrong policies.

In a statement on Monday, Abbas Mousavi said Bin Salman’s hostile remarks are the continuation of the Riyadh regime’s previous wrong approach.

He added that such moves are an escape from the problems created by the kingdom’s erroneous policies, according to the Foreign Ministry’s website, Tasnim News reported.

“Without a proper understanding of the region’s variables and with a militaristic, crisis-based tension-creating approach, Saudi Arabia has given the wealth of its people and regional countries to foreigners,” Mousavi deplored.

The spokesman also expressed hope that Saudi Arabia would abandon its wrong approach that has resulted in nothing but war and destruction in the region.

He hoped that Riyadh would take steps to build confidence and pursue a new policy based on dialogue and interaction to reduce regional tensions.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran will certainly welcome such an approach,” the spokesperson underlined.

His comments came after the Saudi crown prince on Sunday accused Iran of carrying out attacks on two oil tankers in the Sea of Oman.

“The problem is in Tehran and not anywhere else,” bin Salman told Arabic-language newspaper Asharq al-Awsat. “Iran is always the party that’s escalating in the region, carrying out terrorist and criminal attacks either directly or through its militias.”

Meanwhile, Iran’s highest-ranking commander has dismissed the allegations against Iran in the wake of the recent attacks on oil tankers, saying Iran has the courage, unlike the deceptive Americans, to carry out plans to block oil exports from the Persian Gulf overtly if it had such an intention.

Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri on Monday made it clear for the US and its cohorts that if the Islamic Republic of Iran ever decided to block the export of oil from the Persian Gulf, it would overtly and openly implement such a decision by relying on the power of its Armed Forces.
