Former US Diplomat Stresses Syria’s Right to Fight Terrorism by All Means Possible

HAVANA, (ST)- Syria has been facing foreign-backed terrorist organizations and it is the Syrian government’s right to fight terrorism by all means possible, former diplomat at the US State Department Ann Wright has stressed, calling for an immediate withdrawal of the US occupation forces from the Syrian territories.

In a statement to SANA correspondent in Cuba on the sidelines of her participation in the International Seminar of Peace and the Abolition of Foreign Military Bases being held in Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, Wright said the US intervention in Syria “has complicated the situation and increased terrorist organizations’ activities there.” She affirmed that it is the Syrian government’s right to fight terrorism by all means.

The United States has funded and armed the terrorist organizations, which Washington calls “moderate opposition”, in Syria over the years of the war imposed on the country.

Wright pointed out that the US administration has given pretexts to justify its intervention and aggression on other countries, such as the use of chemical weapon.

The American invasion of Iraq in 2003 was the reason behind its resignation from the state department, she said.

On her part, member of the “Veteran for Peace” organization in the United States Monica Reyes, said that the US administration depends on lies and falsification of facts in order to intervene in other countries, implement its schemes and impose its hegemony on these countries.  She affirmed that Washington interference in Syria is part of this scheme.

Reyes added that the US base in Guantanamo is illegal because it goes against the will of the Cuban people. She called on her country to stop its interventionist policy against other countries, noting that this policy brings suffering for the people of these countries.

The sixth International Seminar of Peace and the Abolition of Foreign Military Bases being held in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, concluded its activities on Wednesday with the participation of more than 35 countries including Syria.
