Dr. Shaaban: “Belt and Road” Initiative Very Important for Confronting Western Countries’ Hegemony Policies
BEIJING, (ST)-Presidential Political and Media Advisor, Dr. Bouthian Shaaban has stressed that the “Belt and Road” Initiative is very important for confronting western countries’ hegemony and colonialism’s attempts to separate peoples and countries.
Dr. Shaaban was speaking on Thursday during the opening session of the branch forum of the 2nd International Summit “Belt and Road” in Beijing.
Dr. Shaaban affirmed that the “Belt and Road” Initiative plays a major role in building bridges of communication among the countries of Western Asia and the Middle East and it is very important for the future of mankind, because it affirms the need of coordination and contacts between countries of these regions to confront western hegemony as well as colonialism’s constant attempts to divide countries and tear them apart.
She said that Syria has been facing a terrorist war over the past eight years targeting its sovereignty, independent decision and capabilities. “The most recent form of this war is the participation of the American and western forces in preventing any kind of communication between Syria, Iraq and Iran, because this communication is very essential for our economic, social and cultural life,” Shaaban added, noting that the focus of the “Belt and Road” initiative on building bridges of communication between our countries is of great importance”.
“Syria’s enemies prevent the Syrian people, who have been fighting terrorism on behalf of the entire world, from getting food, medicine and energy,” Shaaban made it clear, pointing out that the terrorism hitting Syria and many other places in the world will target further areas, because the western vision, which has imposed unilateral coercive economic measures on us, is based on the claim that “the west is above humanity” and this is the core problem in the world.
Dr. Shaaban thanked China for the initiative, saying that the “Belt and Road” is an alternative for western hegemony and for the policy of building separation walls, like those built by the Israeli and Turkish occupation and the one being built by the US on the borders with Mexico.
“What distinguishes this initiative is the respect prevailing among the peoples and countries of our regions and the talk about common destiny. This is the culture on which we were brought up in Syria, the cradle of heavenly religions and the main center in the Silk Road,” Shaaban said.
“Today, we are glad to see the great republic of China regaining respect to these principles and creating a new international substitute for hegemony, occupation and terrorism through focusing on coordinating policies, respecting countries and enhancing communication among peoples,” Dr. Shaaban said.
