Gen. al-Shawa: Syria to Continue War on Terrorism until It Liberates Every Inch of the Its Territories including Idleb

MOSCOW, (ST)- Deputy Defense Minister, General Mahmoud al-Shawa, has affirmed that Syria will continue its war on terrorism until it liberates every inch of the Syrian territories including Idleb, pointing out that any illegal foreign presence in Syria is an evident aggression that must immediately come to an end.

In a statement during the 8th Moscow Conference on International Security  (MCIS) in Wednesday o, al-Shawa said the alliance of aggression against Syria has failed in achieving its colonialist scheme after eight years of a heinous terrorist war, stressing that this war hasn’t weakened the Syrian’s determination to confront the terrorist scheme and achieve victory in cooperation with Syria’s allies and friends, mainly Russia, Iran.

Al-Shawa went on to say that the failure of the alliance of aggression against Syria became evident in the policy of lies and continuous hypocrisy adopted by the United States particularly in dealing with the issue of fighting terrorism in Syria and the region. He noted the incessant massacres and acts of killing, displacement and destruction committed by the US in a bid to impose its colonialist aggressive agenda.

The US occupying forces and their affiliated terrorists keep preventing the displaced Syrians in Rukban camp from returning to their liberated villages and towns through the humanitarian corridors opened by the Syrian government in cooperation the Russian side, al-Shawa said, adding that Washington and the terrorists have turned Rukban camp into a detention center and continued to block humanitarian aid deliveries to the citizens, yet it keeps shedding crocodile tears over the humanitarian situation of those citizens.

In addition, al-Shawa said that the European Union has deliberately intended to politicize the humanitarian file in Syria and to exploit it to put more pressure on the Syrian government, noting the western coercive economic measures imposed on the Syrians that affect their livelihood. He pointed out that these coercive measures belie the European talk about their bids to help the Syrians and alleviate their suffering.

According to al-Shawa, terrorism is a continuous tool in the hands of its sponsors and supporters and it is being recycled and invested in this region to serve certain political and economic goals.

He reiterated Syria’s rejection of the American aggressive remarks about the US administration’s intention to keep part of its troops in Syria, stressing that any foreign military presence in the country without the approval of the Syrian government is a clear aggression that must be immediately ended.

Al-Shawa renews Syria’s call for ending the illegal presence of American, French, British and Turkish forces in its territories and for dissolving the so-called US-led coalition as to put an end to the war crimes it has been committing against the Syrians. He also called for immediately lifting the coercive economic measures that have had disastrous impacts on the Syrians and for supporting the Syrian state’s efforts to bring back the displaced Syrians to their towns and villages.

In this regard, al-Shawa urged all the Syrians who left their homeland because of terrorism to return and contribute to rebuilding it.

“War on terrorism in Syria is part of a wider war in the international arena..Terrorism can’t be limited in a specific geographical area, because it is a border-crossing phenomenon which recognizes no religion or identity,” al-Shawa said, affirming that fighting terrorism necessitates collective efforts by the international community to prevent extremist mentality from expanding and needs constructive and sincere cooperation to uproot terrorism, dry up its resources and eliminate its destructive ideology.

Al-Shawa made it clear that Syria has responded positively to the results of Astana process and the Syrian national Dialogue Congress in Sochi concerning the de-escalation zones, but the delay of the Turkish side in implementing its commitments made in Sochi on Idleb has hindered stability there, pointing out that the terrorists of Jabhat al-Nusra pose the most serious threat in most de-escalation zones and they are trying to expand their area of control and to make allies in order to launch attacks on Aleppo, Hama and Lattakia.

The Syrian deputy defense minister reiterated that Syria will press ahead with the fight against terrorism until it liberate all its territories from terrorists, affirming that liberating occupied Syrian Golan from the Israeli occupation is a top priority for Syria.
