500 European terrorists fight in Syrian including German extremists

The minister for Germany’s Internal Affairs Hans-Peter Friedrich assures that “Islamic extremists from Germany are participating in the Combating operations in Syria against Syrian Arab Army”.

In an interview with the German magazine “Spiegel” Freidrich says that “the intelligence fears that “these extremists pose a threat to the security of the country after their return from Syria.”

These statements are the first German official confirmation for the participation of German citizens in the conflict in Syria. The minister said in the interview published on Thursday: “We know that jihadists from Germany were under surveillance in their home, are in Syria now, and fight in the ranks of the opposition.”

Freidrich continues that “Berlin is also knows about the calls for Europeans, who have involved in the armed operations in Syria to get back to their home and to continue the Jihad there. We keep up the development of the situation with great concern”.

The terrorism coordinator in EU Gilles de Kerchove has said that “about 500 European fighters have involved in the war of Syria”.
