Putin to Dispel Security Fears at Meeting with Estonian President – Kremlin

TALLINN – Russian President Vladimir Putin plans to dispel Estonia’s security fears at a meeting with his Estonian counterpart Kersti Kaljulaid, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told the Postimees Estonian newspaper on Saturday.

“Russian President Vladimir Putin wants to dispel Estonia’s security fears at a meeting with Estonian President Kersti Kaljulaid,” he said in an interview over the phone.

“The aim of the meeting is to get to know each other better and discuss current issues,” Peskov added. In his view, no specific decisions should be expected from that meeting.

On Thursday, Kaljulaid said the upcoming meeting with Putin in Moscow was important for relations between the two countries. She added that the two leaders could discuss a wide range of bilateral and global issues at the meeting.

Peskov told reporters on Wednesday that Putin planned to meet with his Estonian counterpart who would pay an official visit to Moscow on April 18 and attend the opening ceremony of the renovated building of the Estonian embassy. Head of the Communications Department at the Office of the Estonian President, Kaidi Aher, told TASS on Tuesday that the Estonian president hoped to meet the Russian leader during her working visit to Moscow, specifying that the official request for a meeting had already been made.
