Zionist Forces Detain Nine Palestinians from West Bank

HEBRON – Zionist forces detained in the early morning hours today nine Palestinians from various parts of the West Bank, according to the Palestinian Prisoner Society (PPS).

It said in a press release that Israeli forces rounded up five Palestinians, including a minor, from the southern West Bank district of al-Khalil.

Palestinian security sources said that two Palestinians were detained from Arroub refugee camp and one each from Fawwar refugee camp, al-Khalil city and Dura town.

In Bethlehem, Israeli military raided Aida refugee camp, north of Bethlehem city, where soldiers detained a Palestinian after ransacking his family home.

In the northern West Bank, PPS said that two Palestinians were rounded up from Jenin and Qalqilia cities.

Elaborating on the Jenin raid, WAFA correspondent said that Israeli forces detained a former prisoner in a raid that triggered confrontations in the northern West Bank city.

In the course of ensuing confrontations, soldiers opened fire on youngsters protesting the raid, hitting one with a rubber-coated steel bullet and causing others to suffer from teargas inhalation.

 In al-Quds, Israeli police rounded up a Palestinian from al-Quds’s Old City. The detainee was identified as a Waqf-appointed guard of Al-Aqsa Mosque compound.

On the other hand in al-Quds, Israeli police detained this morning an employee of the Muslim Waqf department, which is in charge of Muslim property in Jerusalem, because he opened the door to Bab al-Rahma prayer area within Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in al-Quds’s Old City, said Waqf officials.

They said police detained Mahmoud Najib, who works in keeping law and order within the holy compound, after opening the door to the prayer area.

Najib is one of dozens of Waqf employees’ Israeli police has detained in recent weeks then barred them from entering Al-Aqsa compound where they work for days and weeks at a time in an attempt to crack down on efforts by Muslims to keep Bab al-Rahma prayer area open for Muslim worship around the clock.

Palestinians accuse Israel of attempting to turn Bab al-Rahma into a Jewish prayer site, which they insist violates the status quo at the walled Mosque in its entire 144-dunum area as a Muslim-only worship place.
