Information Minister: Media Plays Major Role in War against Syria

MOSCOW, (ST) –The media war, Syria has been facing, is based on preventing the country from getting the modern technology necessary to broadcast facts and real information messages about what is really going on in Syria, said Information Minister Omran al-Zou’bi on Wednesday.

“Syria is being exposed to a real aggression in which the media plays a main role and the armed terrorist groups act as a military arm to destroy Syria,” the minister said in a press conference in Moscow, affirming that many states are directly involved in supporting these groups.

Al-Zou’bi, who referred to the Arab and international technological ban which prevents the development of the Syrian media broadcast, said that tens of satellite channels and public relations companies are highly paid to contribute to implementing a conspiracy aiming to demonize the Syrian state and its establishments.

He pointed out that many of the journalists, who were wounded in the war waged against Syria, had entered the country illegally, stressing that the Syrian armed forces didn’t target a single journalist directly neither through arrests nor through fire shooting.

He also said that Syria wants the mass media to broadcast the reality of events in the country without fabrications or falsification, pointing out that the Information Ministry had given permission to more than 300 media outlets from different countries to enter Syria.

Replying a question on the Arab League’s (AL) recent decisions on Syria, the minister said the AL can’t grant legitimacy to any party, as it is a functional institution which has so far failed to implement any of its adopted economic, social or political decisions.

“It is a fake organization which was undermined after it had granted Syria’s seat to the so-called “Doha Coalition”,” the minister said.

He stressed that Syria appreciates the supportive stances of the Russian people and leadership “who realized from the very beginning what is actually going on in Syria and who understood that certain organized intelligence parties and narrow-minded forces with special agendas are seeking to destroy Syria and undermine its role.

“There is a mutual keenness to further reactivate the Syrian-Russian military, humanitarian and economic relations,” the minister said.

The Information Minister said that his visit to Russia was made at the invitation of the Russian State Duma, adding that during the visit he met many Russian friends as well as academic and political sides to talk on the situation in Syria and ways of enhancing the Syrian-Russian ties.

He pointed out that his talks with Deputy Russian Foreign Minister Michael Bogdanov dealt with the latest political developments and the field operations in Syria, in addition to the Syrian government’s efforts to implement the political program to solve the crisis in the country.
