Trump’s Provocative Statements on Syrian Golan Draw International Condemnation

CAPITALS- The provocative statements made by US President Donald Trump on the occupied Syrian Golan continued to be a source of condemnation and criticism by many countries and parties.

Iraq

 In Baghdad, Iraqi Foreign Ministry affirmed on Saturday that US President Donald Trump’s statements on the occupied Syrian Golan contradict with the international law and give legitimacy to the ocuupation.

“Iraq supports the international legitimacy resolutions issued by the international Security Council which stipulate for ending the occupation,” the ministry said, according to SANA.

 Palestine

In the same context, the Palestinian Foreign Ministry affirmed that the Golan is a Syrian territory occupied by “Israel” since 1967, indicating that Trump’s statements on the Golan are a blatant violation of the international law and legitimacy.

In a statement quoted by Wafa News Agency, the Palestinian Foreign Ministry added that those statements represent the approach of occupation and arrogance adopted by the US and “Israel” and an attempt by Trump’s administration to change the world order and to control it.

The Ministry called upon the international community, particularly the states which claim that they are keen on the security and stability of the region to unify their efforts to stand in the face of the US full bias towards the Israeli occupation and its policies.

Britain

Earlier Britain said occupied Syrian Golan is a land occupied by “Israel” since 1967, indicating that it has no plans to change its stance towards that.

British Foreign Office spokesman said in a statement quoted by Reuters that ““The UK views the Golan as territory occupied by Israel,” asserting that the ” Annexation of territory by force is prohibited under international law, including the U.N. Charter.”

“We did not recognize Israel’s annexation in 1981 and have no plans to change our position,” the statement added.

For his part, Former British Ambassador to Syria Peter Ford said that President Trump’s declaration regarding the occupied Syrian Golan “In no way weakens Syria’s right to recover its land.”

Interviewed by Sputnik Agency, Ford clarified that “Trump’s statement makes absolutely no difference to the situation on the ground,” noting that “makes Israeli control of the Golan in no way less precarious in terms of international law, and in no way weakens Syria’s right to recover its land.”

In turn, the European Union slammed Trump’s statements towards the occupied Syrian Golan, affirming that its stance towards the Golan has never changed and that according to the international law, Israel’s sovereignty over the lands which it occupied in 1967 is not recognized.

France

In the same context, the French Foreign Ministry said that the Golan is a land occupied by “Israel” since 1967 and that France doesn’t recognize its annexation by “Israel” in 1981.

The Ministry  added that “Recognizing Israel’s sovereignty over the Golan which is an occupied land contradicts the international law.”

Geermany

Germany, on the other hand, condemned Trump’s statements, affirming that the Golan is a land occupied by “Israel” and the German Government rejects the unilateral steps.

Cuba

The Cuban Foreign Ministry also condemned US President’s statements on the occupied Syrian Golan.

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez tweeted that “Cuba condemns the US statements on the occupied Syrian Golan, asserting that these statements constitute a blatant violation of the UN relevant resolutions.

Yemen

Yemen condemns Trump’s statements, describe them as stark violation of international law

Meanwhile, the Yemeni Foreign Ministry condemned Trump’s statements on Golan, reiterating Yemen’s firm stance which considers the Golan as a Syrian land occupied since 1967.

An official source at the Yemeni Foreign Ministry was quoted by the Yemen Saba News Agency as saying on Friday that Trump’s statement represent a stark violation of the international law and the UN resolutions.

The source affirmed that these policies will destabilize the situations in the Middle East.
