Astana Process Provided Effective Platform to Find Political Settlement in Syria: Kosachev

ASTANA, (ST)- Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee at the Russian Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev has stressed that Astana process has provided an effective platform to solve the crisis in Syria.

During a meeting between members from the Senate of Kazakhstan and a delegation from the Russian Federation Council in the Kazakh capital Astana,  Kosachev said, according to Tass, that Astana process will continue to be an effective platform to find political settlement in Syria and to unite “different stances”.

“I am sure that Astana process will continue to be a platform through which core, constructive and sustainable solutions will be found,” Kosachev said.

Eleven meetings within Astana format have been held, one of them was held in the Russian city of Sochi last July. All of these meetings affirmed firm commitment to preserving Syria’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity and also stressed the need to continue the war on terrorist organizations until their complete elimination.

Leaders of the Guarantor states of Astana process (Russia, Iran and Turkey) have agreed at the conclusion of their summit in Sochi on February 14th, 2019, to hold the next Astana meeting on the crisis in Syria in April.
