Russian-Iranian-Turkish Summit on Settlement in Syria Starts Today

SOCHI- Presidents of Russia, Turkey and Iran Vladimir Putin, Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Hassan Rouhani will hold a trilateral summit on Syrian settlement in Sochi on Thursday.

“At the talks, the sides plan to consider further joint steps aimed at long-term normalization of the situation in the Syrian Arab Republic,” the Kremlin press service said. Putin, Erdogan and Rouhani will also hold separate bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the summit, according to Itar Tass.

Among main topics on the agenda are the formation of a committee for discussing the Syrian constitution, the situation in Idlib and in the north-east of Syria, as well as planned withdrawal of US troops from Syria, and other issues.

This will be the fourth summit of presidents of guarantor countries of the Astana process on Syria. The first summit was held in November 2017 in Sochi, the second in April 2018 in Ankara, and the third in September 2018 in Tehran.
