TEHRAN, (ST)- Syria’s Deputy Premier, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Walid Moallem and his Iranian counterpart Mohammed Javad Zarif on Tuesday in Tahran held talks on enhancing Syrian-Iranian ties and the on the latest political developments in Syria.
Zarif and Moallem also discussed initiatives to resolve the crisis in Syria, including an upcoming summit of Iran, Russia and Turkey, due to be held in Sochi as part of the Astana political process on Syria. The two sides affirmed the importance of coordination and consultation in the coming era.
Al-Moallem talked to Zarif about the latest developments in Syria and the ongoing consultations for the political settlement in the country.
He hailed the Iranian government and people’s support for Syria against terrorism, saying the victories that Damascus has gained against the terrorist groups also victories for Iran and Syria’s other allies. He stressed the need to boost cooperation in order to confront the coercive economic measures imposed on the two countries by the United States and its allies, noting that these coercive measures serve Israel’s interests in the region.
On his part, Zarif hailed the victories achieved by the Syrian Arab army over terrorism and said that the Zionist regime of Israel, which has confessed to have supported terrorists inside Syria, is against calm and stability in Syria and the region.
Zarif stressed his country’s firm support for Syria’s battle against terrorism until the Syrian state restores its full sovereignty over all its lands, expressing hope that security and stability will be established soon in the enntire Syrian territory.
Zarif called for more cooperation among the region’s countries and affirmed the Iranian companies’ preparedness for economic interaction with Syria in the country’s reconstruction process.
Al-Moallem also met with Ali Larijani, Speaker of the Iranian Shura Council and discussed with him the strategic relations between the two countries and the importance of strengthening them particularly in the parliamentary field.
He noted the great achievements realized in Syria in the fight against terrorism, stressing that these are common victories for Syria and its allies.
Larijani, on his part, pointed out that Syria’s victories over terrorism have been achieved thanks to the wise leadership of President Bashar al-Assad and the resilience of the Syrian Army.
Iran’s Shamkhani Warns Israel against Continued Aggression on Syria
A meeting between Al-Moallem and Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani was also held to discuss the situation in Syria and the region.
Durign the meeting, Shamkhani cautioned the Israeli regime against any move to continue its acts of aggression in Syria, according to Tasnim news Agency.
He deplored any move by the Zionist regime of Israel to attack Syrian soil or any violation of the Arab country’s territorial integrity as “unacceptable”.
If these acts of aggression continue, preplanned measures will be adopted to deter and firmly respond to them and so that the criminal and liar Israeli rulers would learn a lesson, the Iranian top security official noted.
“The common enemies of the Muslim world, especially the United States and the Zionist regime, are trying to destroy the great interests of the Islamic countries, such as security and economic progress, through creating and spreading conflicts and divisions,” he stated.
Al-Moallem, on his part, briefed Shamkhani on Syria’s latest developments and said Damascus will continue dialogue with the unarmed opposition, who are willing to preserve Syria’s integrity.
