Iran to Stand by Syria in Confrontation of Sanctions: Jahangiri

DAMASCUS, (ST)- Iran’s First Vice President Es’haq Jahangiri has stressed that his country will stand by Syria in the confrontation of the unilateral coercive economic measures imposed on the Syrians and in the reconstruction process as it did in the fight against terrorism.

Jahangiri was speaking during a joint press conference with Prime Minsiter Imad Khamis after the conclusion of the meetings of the 14th session of the Syrian-Iranian Higher Committee which resulted in the signing of 11 cooperation agreements in different domains.

He said the committees meetings are clear evidence about the two sides’ keenness on enhancing cooperation in different fields.

Jahangiri congratulated the Syrian people on the victories they achieved in the war on terrorism following great sacrifices, stressing that Iran will continue to support Syria in the war it has been waging on behalf of the entire world to eliminate terrorism and prevent its spread.

On his part, Khamis affirmed that despite challenges over the past eight years, the Syrian people kept steadfast and backed their leadership and army until they achieved victory.

He pointed out that the coercive measures imposed on the Syrian people while the Syrian state is witnessing successive military victories, won’t succeed in achieving the goals which the countries that supported terrorism couldn’t achieve through military means.
 
He asserted that cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Iran will continue at all levels in a way that meets the aspirations of the Syrian and Iranian peoples in finding a joint mechanism to face the sanctions imposed on the two countries.

The premier affirmed that Jahangiri’s visit reflects the high level of coordination between the two countries, urging more efforts to find new prospects of economic cooperation.

The joint committee put great efforts to reach qualitative agreements, said Khamis, vowing continuous coordination for implementing these agreements which covered the areas of ports, electricity, oil, agriculture, agricultural investment, building and housing.

Khamis reiterated that Syria is determined to provide all needed facilitations to Iranian companies willing to carry out investments in Syria and effectivly take part in the reconstruction process.   

He pointed out that consolidating long-term cooperation between Syria and Iran would ensure requirments of the steadfastness of the peoples of the two friendly countries.

Syria and Iran Sign 11 Cooperation Agreements

The Syrian News Agency SANA said that Syria and Iran signed on Monday 11 agreements, memos of understanding and an executive program to boost cooperation between the two countries in the economic, culture, scientific, infrastructure, services, investment and housing domains at the conclusion of the 14th session meetings of the Syrian-Iranian higher committee held in Damascus.

The most prominent paper in the cooperation was the agreement of the long-term strategic economic cooperation and a memo of understanding for the meetings of the higher joint committee signed by Prime Minister Imad Khamis and First vice-President of Iran Eshaq Jahangiri, according to SANA.

Jahangiri: Iran Honored to Spearhead Anti-Terror Fight

According to Press TV,  during a meeting between high-ranking delegations of Iran and Syria, co-chaired by Jahangiri and Syrian Prime Minister Imad Khamis in Damascus on Monday, the Iranian first vice-president said the Islamic Republic is honored to be spearheading the anti-terror campaign in the region.

 He expressed hope that terrorists would be completely eliminated in the Middle East and said, “The international community and the Europeans should know that if it were not for the sacrifices of the Syrian government and people as well as the country’s allies, Daesh terrorists … would establish a government in the region and would turn into a big and insolvable problem for global security.”

Jahangiri further said that regional and global security is closely intertwined, emphasizing that the promotion of security in the region leads to enhanced international security.

He added that Syria had entered a new phase and efforts should be made toward the country’s reconstruction.

He noted that Iran is among the countries in the region and across the world that enjoy high capabilities to build power plants and pledged to help Syria in this regard.

Heading a 40-member delegation, the Iranian vice president arrived in the Syrian capital on Monday on a two-day visit to hold talks with senior officials of the country.

Iran is a key ally of Syria. Tehran has been providing military advisory assistance to Damascus in its anti-terror fight.

On his part, Khamis, according to Press TV, hailed Iran’s support for Syria in recent years and said the achievements made by Syria in the war against terrorists were the triumphs of the two countries and the resistance front as well as all countries in the Middle East.
