Sanctions Run against Europe Sovereignty, Credit, Says Araqchi

Madrid – Before targeting Iran economy, US sanction had been against Europe sovereignty, security and validity, Iran’s deputy foreign minister said.

Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Abbas Araqchi made the remarks in a press conference in Madrid on Friday.

After the implementation of Iran nuclear deal, also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the relations between Tehran and Madrid entered a new phase.

Over 3,000 Spanish firms establish long-term cooperation with Iran, he added.

Referring to the fact that the US re-imposition of sanctions against Iran was illegal and against the UNSC resolutions and International Court of Justice (ICJ) choice, he said the international community, except two countries, slammed the act.

Unfortunately, the US takes advantage of dollar to impose its demands, he said, adding that it seems European companies have followed the US orders more than their local governments.

The JCPOA is the only achievement of Europe foreign policy and the result of many years of negotiations between Iran and global powers, Araqchi said.

He pointed to the recent report released by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) verifying Iran commitment to the JCPOA for the 13th time, saying the US illogical withdrawal from the nuclear deal will make other countries not trust negotiations, diplomacy and the UNSC mechanisms.

The JCPOA is a security agreement in non-proliferation field, he said noting that its killing will result in a new crisis in the Middle East.

‘We hope that Europe will be able to manage this situation,’ Araqchi said.

‘We are looking forward to seeing how Europe will defend its sovereignty against Washington’s pressures.’
