Al-Jaafari: “We Will Restore Occupied Syrian Golan by Peace or by War”
NEW YORK, (ST)- The vast majority of the UN member states on Friday voted in favor of a UN General Assembly draft resolution stressing Syria’s sovereignty over the occupied Golan and considering all the procedures adopted by the Israeli occupation in Golan as null and void.
The draft resolution was supported by 151 member states and opposed by the United States and “Israel” while 14 countries abstained from voting.
Following the voting, Syria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Bashar Al-Jaafari said during the 28th meeting of the Fourth Committee of the UN General Assembly in its 73rd Session, that “voting by vast majority in favor of the draft resolution sends a clear message to Israel that its occupation of the Syrian Golan is rejected as it violates the rules of the UN Charter and the principles of the International Law and that Israel must end its occupation of all occupied Arab territories and immediately stop its violations of human rights and the International Humanitarian Law including the Geneva Convention (IV) adopted in 1949.”
He reiterated that voting also stresses that the Israeli occupation’s attempt to annex the Golan is null and void and of no legal effect pursuant to Security Council Resolution No. 497 of the year 1981.
He pointed out that the people of the occupied Syrian Golan have foiled all the occupation’s attempts to Judaize the Golan, the latest of which was foiling the so-called “Local Councils Elections” on October 30.
US is key partner of Israel in its crimes
Al-Jaafari also said that the US voting against the draft resolution on the occupied Syrian Golan was not surprising, because Washington is a key partner of the Israeli occupation in its wars and acts of aggression against the region and it always protects the Israeli entity against any accountability for its decades-long criminal record. He added that the United States is also Israel’s partner in stealing the Golan’s resources through American firms like Genie, Afek and AES which illegally conduct oil excavation in the Golan.
In addition, al-Jaafari said the United States itself is practicing occupation by the presence of its troops in the Syrian territories and by protecting Daesh terrorists in Syria’s al-Tanf area and the north of Deir Ezzor a s well as in several countries of the world.
Al-Jaafari went on to say that the Israeli occupation’s representative to the UN failed to understand the legal and political message sent by this majority votes, adding that this representative also used the term “Golan Heights” which is incorrect as the Golan consists of heights, valleys, plains, rivers, springs, and Lake Tiberias, all of which is Syrian territory as the member states acknowledged, and it will all return to Syria whether Israel likes it or not.
He said that the Israeli representative should understand that “we will restore Golan by peace or by war.. this is our message to Israel and its envoy.”
