Being an Idol for Young Girls in India Is Not Easy

It’s still not sunk in,” says 18-yearold ZoyaAfroz, about being crowned Ponds Femina Miss India Second Runner Up 2013. The Lucknow lass says she still pinches herself to feel it’s all for real. “I always wanted to be a Miss India, and now when that dream has come true, I can’t thank God enough,” she says. “It’s been four days since I was crowned and the phones haven’t stopped ringing. More than me, it’s my mother and father who are happy. They are the ones who have supported me in all of this and stood by me like a rock. This crown is all because of them,” shares Zoya.

“The Miss India title is so huge, I am realizing it now. As a kid I used to tell my mom that AishwaryaRaiBachchan was my idol and I wanted to be like her, but now when I have been crowned a Miss India myself, I know it’s not just about glamour and beauty. There’s so much more to it and my respect for the former title holders has increased so much. Because they have done justice to this title, and I hope I can do too. This title has changed my life. There’s so much of respect and recognition involved with being a Miss India. Being an idol for all the young girls in India is not an easy task,” she gushes.
