President Al-Assad: Syrian-Iraqi Coordination Never Stopped Despite Critical Security Conditions

DAMASCUS, (ST)- President Bashar Al-Assad has stressed that the victories achieved over terrorism in Syria and Iraq are common victories for the two countries which have been fighting terrorists in a joint battlefield where the blood of the Syrian and Iraqi heroes, who made these victories, was mixed together.

President Al-Assad’s remarks were made during a meeting on Monday with Iraqi Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari. Talks dealt with developments on the Syrian and Iraqi arenas as well as with regional and international situation.

President Al-Assad reiterated the importance of enhancing the historical relations between Syria and Iraq, mainly at the popular level.

Despite difficult security conditions in both countries and the foreign plots to hinder the progress of bilateral relations, coordination at all levels between the two countries has never stopped and there has been mutual understanding of what is going on in the region and the world, President Al-Assad stressed.

 On his part, the Iraqi top diplomat said the regional and international circumstances are improving and the stances on what is happening in Syria and Iraq are positively changing, because the people of the two countries are defending a legitimate and just cause. He urged more work as to achieve more victories to be dedicated for development in the two countries and the entire region.

“Syria has a rich historical cultural heritage and after achieving its final victory on terrorism it will have a bigger and more important role in the region,” al-Jaafari said.

The two sides agreed on intensifying joint action as to open the border crossings between the two countries to expand cooperation.
