Use of Internationally-Banned Weapons against Syrians Has Become a Systematic Behavior by US-Led Coalition
DAMASCUS, (ST)- The use of internationally- banned weapons against the Syrian people has become a deliberate systematic behavior by the US-led coalition, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates has stressed in two letters to the UN Chief and President of the Security Council regarding the new crime the illegal international coalition committed by targeting the locals of Hajin town in Syria’s Deir Ezzor province with white phosphorus bombs.
The illegal coalition’s warplanes on October 13 and 14, 2018, targeted residential areas in Hajin town with internationally-banned white phosphorus bombs, killing a number of civilians most of them were women and children, the ministry said, calling for an international investigation of the coalition’s crimes in Syria.
The crime, which is a flagrant violation of the International Law, the Humanitarian International Law and human rights conventions, is added to the war crimes and crimes against humanity this illegal coalition has been perpetrating against the Syrians, the ministry went on to say.
It noted the US-led coalition’s crimes of supporting terrorists and separatist militias to achieve its goals and aggressive schemes that target Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The ministry renewed Syria’s call on the Security Council to assume its responsibility towards preserving international peace and security, to conduct an international investigation into the coalition’s crimes and to immediately move to stop such crimes and put an end to the illegal presence of the American and other foreign forces in Syria which aim at undermining Syria’s independence and unity.
In August, 2017, the international coalition used white phosphorus in attacking residential areas in the Syrian provinces of Raqqa, Deir Ezzor, Aleppo and Hasaka.
