Syrian-Russian Cooperation in the Fields of Energy, Oil and Gas

Moscow– The Minister of Oil and Mineral Resources Ali Ghanem and Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak and a number of representatives of Russian companies discussed here on Tuesday ways to enhance cooperation and implementation of bilateral agreements between Syria and Russia in the fields of energy, oil and gas.

On the sidelines of the meetings of the second day of the International Energy Forum in Moscow, Mr. Ghanem said: our ambition to strengthen our relations, especially in the oil sector and we hope to upgrade to the level of historical relations between the two countries.

He pointed to the importance of the International Energy Forum held in Moscow, especially for the participants of the ministers and oil companies at the global level, as well as the level of seminars and lectures.

  For his part Mr. Novak said “Our relations with Syria have been cordial for decades and we support the ongoing dialogue between our two countries at the highest levels and pay great attention to revive the Syrian economy. The roadmap has been signed in the field of electric power, oil and gas,”. He pointed out the necessity of going ahead to implement these projects.

In the same context, r. Ghanem discussed with Russian companies’ representatives the development of cooperation with the Russian side in the field of surveying, exploration, investment and extraction of hydrocarbons materials from oil, gas and mineral resources in Syria.

In an interview with the SANA correspondent in Moscow, the Minister of Oil and Mineral Resources said that the forum was a very important platform for exchanging ideas in the field of energy.

“Since the first steps of liberation by the Syrian Arab Army, there was a plan to re-activate the oil facilities and access to all oil facilities in accordance with plans set by the Ministry of Oil and Mineral Resources and get the oil product in all facilities and we are working to develop this sector gradually to reach what It was before the crisis,” Mr. Ghanem added.

He pointed to the joint projects that will actually contribute to the rehabilitation of oil facilities and their entry into investment and the return of this sector as it was before the crisis.

In a similar interview, Director-General of the General Organization for Geology and Mineral Resources in Syria, Geological Eng. Sameer Al-Assad, said that during the participation in the forum, we had the opportunity to brief on the experiences of other countries in the field of oil exploitation, mineral wealth and the acquisition of new experiences.
