DAMASCUS, (ST)-The S-300 missile system with which Russia will supply Syria within the coming two weeks are “defensive”, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faysal al-Mikdad has stressed, reiterating that Syria will defend itself as it always does.
Al-Mikdad, who was speaking to journalists during a reception held on Tuesday by the Chinese Embassy in Damascus marking the 69th Anniversary of the foundation of the People’s Republic of China, affirmed that the tragic incident which led to the downing of the Russian IL-20 has uncovered and clarified Israel’s aggressive policies and the support being provided by the United States and other western countries to the Israeli destructive policies in Syria.
“Israel, which used to launch attacks against Syria under different pretexts, should now make precise assessment before thinking of attacking Syria again, said al-Mikdad, pointing out that the aggression on Syria is an aggression on all the forces which are fighting terrorism in Syria and working to restore security and stability in the country.
“Syria will defend itself as it always does and it welcomes this defensive support which should have been provided to the country long time ago,” he added.
On Monday, Moscow announced that it will deliver S-300 air defense systems to Syria within two weeks as to upgrade Syria’s defensive abilities.
