Europe Strongly Backs its Firms in Iran in post-JCPOA Era

TEHRAN – European Union Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini said that European Union will throw its heavyweight on European companies in sanctions period.

She criticized US unilateral policies in the international arena with regard to Iran’s nuclear dossier and said, “EU intends to support its companies in Iran legally after US pullout from Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).”

EU and Tehran consider legal procedures in order to protect European companies active in Iran from US sanctions, she maintained.

European Union has activated legal provisions [including Blocking Statute] for circumventing US sanctions, she said, adding, “Europe will make its utmost efforts in order to secure Iran’s interests in JCPOA.”

A landmark nuclear deal was inked between Iran and six world’s major powers in Austrian capital Vienna in mid-July 2015, she opined.

She pointed to the ‘Blocking Statute’ devised by Europe Union in order to protect EU companies from US sanctions and said, “this law will empower Europe to ignore verdicts issued at the US courts with regard to the unilateral withdrawal of US from JCPOA, so that all companies have to observe the law strictly, otherwise, violating companies would be pursued within the framework of legal rules and regulations.”

Moreover, UK, German and French leaders have recently published separate announcements and emphasized on backing Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) wholeheartedly, she concluded.
