MOSCOW, (ST)- Spokeswoman of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova has reiterated the need to lift the coercive unilateral measures imposed by the West on the Syrian people and to facilitate the return of displaced Syrians to their homeland, pointing out that these measures are hindering the political solution to the crisis in the country.
In a press conference in Moscow on Thursday, Zakharova said the Syrian government has urged citizens, who were forced by the war and terrorist attacks to leave the country, to return home particularly after the Syrian army has liberated most of the terrorist-held areas, the Syrian news agency SANA reported.
The government of the Syrian Arab Republic stresses that it is responsible for the security and safety of its citizens and their daily requirements for normal life, including infrastructure, hospitals and schools, a Syrian foreign ministry official source said on Tuesday.
Zakharova said that her country welcome the Syrian government’s call and it is ready to provide necessary assistance to the Syrian people in the reconstructing the country and creating suitable circumstances for the return of displaced Syrians to their villages and towns.
Illegal presence of US forces in al-Tanf area hinders return of displaced Syrians
The spokeswoman went on to say that the illegal presence of the US troops in al-Tanf area is one of the reasons hindering the return of the displaced Syrians to their homeland, because it blocks counterterrorism efforts and the delivery of humanitarian aid to refugees in al-Rukban camp.
She expressed her country’s optimism that the international community will respond to the Syrian government’s calls for lifting the coercive measures imposed on the Syrian people and that the international organizations and community will assume their responsibilities in meeting requirements of the return of the displaced Syrians to their country.
She pointed out that the western media outlets are launching a disinformation campaign against the Syrian government and army at a time when the Syrian army is busy clearing Syria’s southern region from terrorists.
She affirmed that reality on ground is completely different from the image being presented by the western media based on provocative claims promoted by the so-called “White Helmets” and other west-funded organizations and persons.
