Peter Ford: Western Countries Should Acknowledge That the Syrian State Is Triumphing

GENEVA, (ST)- Britain’s Former Ambassador to Syria Peter Ford has stressed that the Syrian state’s military victory has become an unquestionable fact and that the West, whose schemes in Syria have been foiled, no longer has cards to use except its bid to delay the end of the war on Syria.

During a symposium organized by the International Association of Democratic Lawyers on the sidelines of the 38th session of the Human Rights Council currently being held in Geneva under the title “Syria , Different Perspective”,  Ford said the western countries should be realistic and acknowledge that the Syrian state is militarily triumphing and regaining control, clarifying that 80% of Syria’s population are living under the state umbrella and they are the people who will decide Syria’s future.

Ford talked about the fabrication of chemical attacks by terrorists in Syria over the past years and the role of the so-called White Helmets organization in this respect, warning of a new plan for another staged chemical attack in southern Syria to be directed by the White Helmets in order to create a pretext for foreign intervention in Syria.  He recalled the alleged chemical attacks in Khan Sheikhoun and other Syrian areas.

Ford noted the technical breaches committed by the International Investigation Committee, including ignoring the tripartite aggression on Syria crime which falls within its mandate. He also referred to the committee’s politicized report on eastern Ghouta.

The British diplomat pointed out that he has information saying that the United States is pressing as to make the report include accusations against the Syrian state of the use of chemical weapon, given its concern about the results reached by the organization for the prohibition of Chemical Weapon (OPCW) and which don’t match Washington’s goals in incriminating the Syrian state.

“When these pressure attempts failed to achieve their goals Washington and its allies moved to putting pressure on the Organization itself in the Hague,” he said.
