Distribution of 1,500 Bee Hives to Aleppo Farmers

Aleppo- The Syrian Secretariat of the Union of Arab Beekeepers in cooperation with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the Ministry of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform distributed 1500 bee hives to 500 families in the area of Safira, Aleppo, at the rate of 3 hives per beneficiary.

Head of the Syrian beekeepers’ Union, Fattouh Gomaa, said the grant targeted poor families who do not own agricultural land and families who were damaged and lost their livelihood and have a desire to raise bees and improve their living conditions.

 The Director of Agriculture Bureau in Aleppo, Eng. Nabih Murad, said that 50 percent of the aid was allocated to 250 damaged families.

For her part, Mrs. Manal Muammar, Chairperson of the Women’s Committee of the Union of Arab beekeepers, expressed the response of the women of Aleppo to work in this sector, pointing to the work carried out by the Union to conduct bee breeding courses and provide technical advice for the success of the project.

For his part, the Representative of the FAO in Aleppo, Suleiman Karazon, said that the organization is a key partner of the Ministry of Agriculture in providing assistance to affected families and provides each farmer three bee hives with a basket of supplies and provide training and advice for beekeeping.
