NEW YORK, (ST)- Syria’s Permanent Representative at the United Nations Bashar Al-Jaafari has stressed that writers of the UN report on implementing resolution No. 2139 have ignored the war crimes and the crimes against humanity committed by the United States and its allies in the city of Raqqa and in other Syrian cities under the pretext of fighting terrorism.
During a Security Council session on Wednesday to discuss humanitarian situation in Syria and the UN Chief report on implementing resolution No. 2139, al-Jaafari said that the report also ignored Israel’s continuous crimes and repeated attacks on the Syrian territories as well as its support for terrorist groups at the disengagement zone.
He added that the United States, Britain and France have worked to use the UN chief report on the implementation of Resolution 2139 as a tool for political pressure on the Syrian government as to achieve their agendas which aim at interfering in Syria’s internal affairs and threatening its security and stability.
He stressed that writers of the report should be questioned over calling Jabhat al-Nusra, listed as terrorist entity by the Security Council, and its allied groups in Idleb as “armed opposition”.
Syria’s representative affirmed that some Security Council members presented in their statements distorted images about the reality of the situation in Syria.
It seems that the UN Chief Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura has forgotten that fighting terrorism in Syria is a priority.
Many terrorists left the al-Rukban camp and al-Tanf base areas and attacked two cities in Syria’s southern region, therefore, the Syrian Arab army have the right to defend the locals there, al-Jaafari said.
Turkish aggression against Afrin caused displacement of locals
Al-Jaafari went on to say that the Turkish aggression against Afrin is the main cause of the displacement and the suffering of the city’ locals, noting the Syrian government’s efforts to provide support and assistance as well as mobile clinics to the people affected by this aggression.
He reiterated that Syria will press ahead with fighting international terrorism on its entire territory in parallel with adherence to political solution to the crisis through intra-Syrian dialogue led by Syria and without foreign interference or pre-conditions.
