Iran hails successful election in Lebanon as reign of rationality

 

TEHRAN – Iranian Parliament’s General Director for International Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said that the successful holding of recent election in Lebanon proved that rationality and wisdom are ruling in Lebanon.

“The outcome of the recent election in Lebanon proved that rationality and wisdom are ruling in Lebanon,” said Iranian Parliament’s General Director for International Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, according to the Mehr News Agency.

The Iranian diplomat made the remarks on Sunday while meeting with United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon, Pernille Dahler Kardel in Tehran. Ms. Kardel met with Iranian former FM after visiting the Iranian foreign ministry where she held talks with Iranian foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif before noon.

 

“My mission’s objective is to help the establishment and preservation of stability in Lebanon and the international interaction between Lebanon and the world, the same as what the Islamic Republic of Iran is after in Lebanon,” asserted the UN special coordinator, in this meeting.

She also referred to successful election held in Lebanon recently as a step toward bolstering democracy in the Arab country. “The recent election was a big achievement but not the final one and we have to be able to contribute to setting the balance and establishing stability in Lebanon,” she highlighted.

Ms. Kardel also said that helping economic development in Lebanon and supporting Syrian refugees there are the top priorities of the UN in Lebanon. She voiced hope to see a comprehensive agreement brokered through a political framework to meet the UN objectives in the Arab country.

The Iranian official, in this meeting, for his part, voiced content with successful running of election in Lebanon and added, “fortunately with the initiatives of Lebanese officials we witnessed a period of serenity, stability, and mutual understanding between political movements in Lebanon which led to a successful election held under calm and peaceful circumstances.”

He also reminded that the Islamic Republic of Iran is fully ready to expand economic relations with Lebanon and asserted that the bold role of resistance makes it necessary to enhance military capabilities of the Lebanese army.
