Illegal US-Led Coalition Seeks Undermining Syria’s Sovereignty, Territorial Integrity: Foreign Ministry

DAMASCUS, (ST)- The main goal of the continuous massacres of the illegal US-led Coalition against the Syrian people is to prolong the crisis and undermine the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Syrian state, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates has stressed, renewing call on the Security Council to immediately move as to stop the war crimes and the crimes against humanity being committed by this coalition in Syria.

 In a letter addressing the United Nations and the Security Council on Wednesday, the ministry said that on May 1st, 2018, the illegal coalition led by the United States perpetrated a new massacre against innocent Syrians when its warplanes shelled residential neighborhoods in al-Fadel village in Hassaka southern countryside, claiming the lives of 25 civilians including two elderly people, as well as women and children. The airstrikes also wounded more than a hundred people and caused destruction to civilians’ properties and to the village infrastructure.

The ministry added that the coalition has committed many crimes in different parts of Syria, provided systematic support for Daesh terrorists and worked to reemploy the terror organization within the framework of separatist militias that serve the United States agenda in the governorates of Hassaka, Raqqa and Deir Ezzour. This behavior by the coalition affirms that the goal of the coalition is to undermine the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic in flagrant violation of the Security Council resolutions which all assert the need to maintain the unity of the Syrian land and people, the ministry pointed out.

Syria calls on the Security Council to assume its responsibilities in maintaining international peace and security and to move immediately as to stop the war crimes and crimes against humanity perpetrated by the coalition against the Syrian people and to end the aggressive presence of the American forces and other foreign troops which are illegally operating in Syria, the ministry went on to say.

It added that Syria also urges the Security Council to prevent the United States from implementing its evil scheme in Syria through which Washington aims to divide the country and steal its resources.
