Human Rights Council Adopts Resolutions Condemning Israeli Violations of Golan, Rejecting Settlements

GENEVA – The UN Human Right Council in Geneva adopted on Friday two resolutions; the first condemning the violations by the Israeli occupation authorities in the occupied Syrian Golan, demanding the authorities comply with international resolutions, especially UN Security Council resolution no. 497 of 1981, which rejected the occupation’s decision to impose its laws on the Golan and considered it null and void, and the second rejecting building settlements in occupied Arab lands, SANA reported.

In a statement at the 37th Session of the Human Rights Council, item 7 / the situation of Human Rights in the occupied Syrian Golan, Syria’s Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva, Ambassador Hussam Eddin Ala, said the resolution not only confirms the rejection of Israeli practices and violations, but it also sends a clear political message on the adherence to the principles of the UN Charter.

Ambassador Ala, according to SNA, said that the ongoing violations of international humanitarian law by the Israeli occupation authorities since their occupation of the Syrian Golan in 1967, as well as their violations of all the basic rights of the Syrians in the occupied Golan, emphasize the importance of the adopted resolution and the importance of monitoring these systemic violations.

He added that the resolution also rejects the arbitrary detention of the people of the occupied Golan by the occupation authorities.

The Ambassador reiterated Syria’s condemnation of the announcement by the Israeli occupation authorities to organize local elections in the occupied Syrian Golan later this year.
