Turkish opposition slams Erdogan’s stance on Syria

Middle Eastern countries such as Qatar and Saudi Arabia have been accused of stepping up weapons supplies to militants fighting inside Syria. Turkey’s main opposition leader says these weapons could not get into the hands of the insurgents without Turkey’s help– a fact that has led to the deterioration of ties between Ankara and Damascus.

The head of the Turkish opposition has criticized Prime Minister Reccip Tayyip Erdogan for his policies on the crisis in Syria. The head of the CHP party said foreign backed terrorists were receiving training in camps inside Turkey. He also said weapons were being sent from Turkey to foreign backed militants in Syria to quote” kill our brothers”.

Kemal Kilichdaroglu went on to say that the major countries benefiting from the war in Syria were France, the US and Germany. He said the ruling AK party’s excuse of trying to bring democracy to Syria was not true.

The rhetoric coming from the head of Turkey’s CHP party comes two years into a bloody war between Syrian government forces and foreign backed terrorists supported by Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the West. The conflict according to the UN has left over 70,000 people dead and over 1,000,000 displaced.

Turkey’s main opposition CHP believes if Turkey were to close its borders for 10 days, thus preventing the flow of arms to the foreign backed terrorists in Syria, the brutal war would come to an end.

The recent rhetoric from the head of the Peoples Republican party comes as Ankara is becoming ever more isolated by its neighbors. The party says it does not trust US policies in the region and fears that the stance Turkish PM Raccip Tayyib Erdogan is taking could eventually lead to a war in Turkey. This is something they claim to be doing everything in their power to avoid.
